Our Faith
As a United Methodist congregation, we are guided by Scripture, tradition, reason, and experience — the four pillars of Wesleyan theology. We believe in a God of grace who loves all people and calls us to love one another.
We believe God's grace is available to every person — prevenient, justifying, and sanctifying — drawing us toward wholeness and new life.
We hold the Bible as the primary source of Christian teaching, interpreted through tradition, reason, and personal experience.
John Wesley taught that there is no holiness but social holiness. Our faith calls us outward — to serve, advocate, and love our neighbors.
All are welcome at the Lord's Table. We practice open communion, inviting everyone who seeks Christ to receive the bread and cup.
Our Story
Washburn United Methodist Church was founded in the late 1800s by a small group of settlers who gathered in homes and schoolhouses to worship together. In 1902, the congregation built its first permanent church building on the corner of Main Street — a modest white clapboard structure that became the heart of the community.
Over the decades, the church grew alongside the town of Washburn. A fellowship hall was added in the 1950s, and the current sanctuary was completed in 1978. Through floods, economic hardship, and seasons of great joy, this congregation has remained a constant presence — a place of refuge, celebration, and belonging.
Today, Washburn UMC continues that legacy. We are a multigenerational congregation committed to worship, service, and the radical welcome of all people. We are proud of where we have come from, and we are excited about where God is leading us.
Our Team
Senior Pastor
Pastor Dan has served Washburn UMC since 2018. A graduate of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, he is passionate about preaching, pastoral care, and building bridges between the church and the wider community. He and his wife, Karen, have two children and a very enthusiastic golden retriever.

Director of Worship & Music
Margaret has led music at Washburn UMC for over fifteen years. A classically trained pianist and choral director, she brings warmth, creativity, and deep faith to every Sunday service. She also directs the handbell choir and coordinates seasonal cantatas.

Office Administrator
Linda is the friendly voice you'll hear when you call the church office. She keeps the day-to-day operations running smoothly, coordinates volunteers, and is often the first person to welcome newcomers through the door. She has been a member of Washburn UMC her entire life.
